Last Sunday, 23rd of September, I was one of the 21 726 people that broke one of the World’s Records.
21 726 members of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University [PolyU] community, supporters and Scouts formed the world’s largest national and SAR flags at the Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground, in Hong Kong Island.
The event – Flags of Harmony and Unity – was the largest activity celebrating PolyU’s 70th Anniversary and HKSAR’s 10th Anniversary.
Each participant played an important part in making the flags. Everything was so well organized. Too bad that the briefing, the instructions and speeches were all in Cantonese. But I managed to understand completely the instructions, by following the others
[u cannot imagine the situations I handled so far, without knowing any word in Cantonese]. And I also had my lovely ITC friends with me [Petra, Vivien and Sandy] that were a great help and wonderful companions.
Imagine thousands of enthusiastic people – young and old, teachers and students with their family, supporters, the Scouts and many other external bodies standing closely together on the grass pitch and holding up coloured boards to form the image of the national flag, and afterwards the image of SAR flag [just by flipping over the boards].
We also had an entertainment programme featuring some Canton pop-singers and the Student Taekwondo Club. Not very impressive, though [no intention to offend anyone].
